2025 MLK and Black History Convocation
On behalf of the Gary Educational Development Foundation, Inc., I extend our heartfelt gratitude for the Gary Community School Corporation staff and students for their unwavering support of the 2025 MLK and Black History Convocation held on March 19, 2025, at the WSLA Auditorium.
Thanks to the generosity and commitment of our students, the event was an outstanding success. Our scholars shined brightly through the efforts of the WSLA Student Council, ROTC, Band, Choir, and Praise Dance teams, and student and staff leadership was evident in their poised and passionate performances.
We especially want to recognize student contributions toward the continued legacy of this convocation.
Collectively, your donations helped us reach a whopping $3,000 —supporting student enrichment programs, cultural experiences, and academic growth opportunities throughout our district. A special thank you to Dr. Yvonne Stokes and the Central Office for rounding out our total contribution.
West Side Leadership Academy will proudly retain their trophy, and we are excited to present Frankie Woods McCullough Academy with a trophy in honor of their outstanding donation.
Thank you again for all you do. Your dedication makes a lasting difference in the lives of our scholars.

2023 West Side Leadership Academy Scholarship Recipients
Saturday, August 5, 2023 during our annual luncheon. We also honored our volunteers, donors, counselors and teachers. The Gary Educational Development Foundation, Inc. has been awarding Scholarships to deserving Gary Community School Corporation students since 1975. Thanks to the vision and dedicated support of Fred Ford, Gordon McAndrew, YJean Chambers, Joe Torres, Montague Oliver, Haron J. and Ruth Battle, Richard Bass, Fred Eichorn, Sandra Irons, Sam Bianco, Paul Stephens, Nellie Moore and Barbara Cope the Foundation continues to thrive.
